TANKERS The replacement of modern Aframax tonnage in the Med. due to weather delays is the main reason for maintaining present levels of W/S 260-280. – The Cont. market is quiet, with rates around W/S 175-180. CSSA for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 7 Ecuk, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Alfa Britannia» at W/S 175. – Caribs stable at W/S 280-290. Valero has fixed M/T «Bering Sea» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 16 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 290. – W. Africa has a downtrend, with latest Suezmax fixtures around W/S 150 irrespective of destinations. – In the Med., Chevtex for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 20 Black Sea, discharging Med., has fixed Agip tonnage at W/S 265. – In the Cont., El Paso for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 18 Denmark, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Falster Spirit» at W/S 225. – In Caribs, Valero has fixed M/T «Overseas J Cam» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading mid-Feb., discharging USAC, at W/S 285. – In W. Africa, CSSA for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 27, discharging UKC/Med., has fixed M/T «Arteaga» at W/S 145. DRY CARGO Capers is quiet, while Panamaxes is in good demand for short T/C periods. – Cobam has fixed M/V «Boss» for 140,000 tons of coal, loading Feb. 13-28 Australia, discharging Netherlands, at USD 11.45 per ton with 2 days’ load and 6 days’ discharge, while Neu has fixed M/V «Cape Europe» for 150,000 tons of ore, loading end Feb. or beg. March Brazil, discharging Rotterdam, at USD 6.90 per ton with 6 days’ all purposes. – On Panamaxes in Far East, Sanko has fixed M/V «Mass Wits,» 69,353 dwt, built 1988, delivery Pakistan Feb. 10-20, trip via India, redelivery Japan, at USD 14,100 daily. – In Atlantic, Abt has fixed M/V «Panacea,» 73,390 dwt, built 1997, delivery Feb. 15-28 East Coast Italy, for 6-9 month period, at USD 12,400 daily. – On smaller sizes, IVS has fixed M/V «Dimitris Y,» 28,192 dwt, built 1983, delivery S. Africa beg. February, redelivery UKC/Med., at USD 7,000 daily. – On grain cargoes, M/V «Samjohn Amity» for 55,000 tons of cargo, loading US Gulf Feb. 11-28, discharging China, has fixed at USD 25.00 per ton with 10,000 tons load and 5,000 tons discharge.
