Digital labor card for state transport workers

Online system for clocking in accelerated after Tempe so as to include public sector workers

Digital labor card for state transport workers

The government is bringing forward the implementation of the digital labor card at state companies to the end of April, in the aftermath of the Tempe railway tragedy.

The findings of the investigation into the deadly train collision have reportedly deemed it imperative that the digital work card be introduced at public utility companies, especially those in transport.

At first, according to the Labor Ministry, the measure will be applied at 12 organizations which cover some 18,000 employees, as well as the companies Hellenic Train and Hellenic Railway Equipment Maintenance Company, in order to deal with issues related to workers on the railway network. Other state companies will follow in the second year.

It is noted that the companies active in the field of energy will join when the industrial sector also enters this system in its next stage. Before the crash at Tempe that led to the alteration of the original plan, the ministry had planned for the inclusion of industries in the digital clocking-in system.

However, following the relevant statement by the prime minister and after consultation with the Finance Ministry, the Labor Ministry decided to extend the digital card to the following companies: OSE, ERGOSE, STASY, OSY, OASA, OSETH, OASTH, Attiko Metro, Building Infrastructures SA, Egnatia Odos SA, EYDAP, ELTA, Hellenic Train and Hellenic Railway Equipment Maintenance Company.

In this way, it is estimated that the process of recording working hours will be shielded, while the presence of workers at the workplace will be directly certified in an unquestionable manner and with technological tools that facilitate the immediate detection of any violations and false statements whether they come from the business side or that of the employees. This way the accurate recording of overtime will also be achieved.

It should be noted that digital labor cards are already used by more than 150,000 employees, at banks, large supermarkets, insurers and security companies.
