TANKERS Firmer conditions in all areas and all sizes. Med. Aframax rates have moved nicely to W/S 300, while Cont. is trading at W/S 190. – In Caribs, the 70,000 tons of cargo liftings are fixed at W/S 310, with Stasco having fixed M/T «Irene,» loading Feb. 28 Colombia, discharging US Gulf, at aforesaid levels. – Suezmaxes out of W. Africa very firm, especially for early loading dates. Stasco has fixed M/T «Front Warrior» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading March 3, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 180. – On VLCCs, Vela has fixed M/T «Hawtah» for 285,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 24 Arabian Gulf, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 67.5. – In the Med., Tamoil, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading mid-Feb. Libya, discharging Med., has fixed Minerva tonnage at W/S 285. – On the Cont., CSSA has fixed M/T «Kuban» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Feb. 21 for UKC round, at W/S 185. – In Caribs, Exxonmobil for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading March 13 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Eurydice» at W/S 290. DRY CARGO In Atlantic, Capesize rates are firming. The 1999-built, 171,746-dwt M/V «Cape Sun» was rumoured to have been booked for delivery Ijmuiden, trip via St Lawrence to the East with Nyk at USD 28,500 daily. – Panamaxes trading in the East were sluggish, though rates are holding steady. M/V «Vogevoyager,» 72,171-dwt, built 1996, delivery China end-Feb., trip via Australia, redelivery Far East, was fixed at USD 13,700 daily. – In the Atlantic, the 2001-built, 75,910-dwt M/V «Lake Camelia» has been fixed by Pan Ocean for a trip from Passero via East Coast S. America to the East, at USD 13,700 daily. – On Handymax and T/C periods, San Juan navigation has fixed M/V «Ken Ocean,» 45,111 dwt, built 1994, delivery Japan Feb. 16-18 for 12 months’ trading, at USD 9,600 daily. – On smaller sizes, USAC has fixed M/V «Aeolian Sky,» 18,032 dwt, built 1987, delivery Feb. 17-18 US Gulf, redelivery Muscat, at USD 7,800 daily. – On coal cargoes, AMCI, for 65,000 tons, loading USAC Feb. 14-18, discharging Morocco, has fixed M/V «Alaska» at USD 8.50 per ton with 25,000 tons’ load and 22,000 tons’ discharge.
