Road on Mount Grammos sparks probe
Prosecutors in Ioannina have ordered a preliminary investigation into the illegal construction of a road on Mount Grammos in northwestern Greece.
Opposition parties have raised the issue in parliament. The prosecutor’s office has already summoned individuals for questioning.
Environmental groups warn that the road could severely impact one of Greece’s largest alpine ecosystems. They argue that construction took place without proper oversight, highlighting concerns over the country’s environmental crisis.
The Natural Environment and Climate Change Agency (NECCA) will submit a report once the investigation is complete.
