TANKERS Quieter conditions in most areas, with Aframaxes in the Med. trading near W/S 350. ERG has fixed M/T «Astro Altair» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Egypt March 17, discharging Italy, at W/S 350, while BP has fixed M/T «Eagle Augusta» for same cargo quantity, loading Tunisia March 19, discharging Italy, at W/S 345. – On Suezmaxes, Sun in W. Africa has fixed M/T «Genmar Macedon» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading March 27, discharging USAC, at W/S 185. – In the Cont., BP for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading March 16 N. Sea, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Nordic Akarita» at W/S 260. – In Caribs, BP for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading March 29, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Clyde Spirit» at W/S 395. – In W. Africa, Sun has fixed M/T «Triathlon» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading March 28, discharging USAC, at W/S 185. DRY CARGO Firmer rates are reported for Atlantic caper tonnage, while the Far East remains quiet. M/V «New Forest,» 185,688 dwt, built 1996, delivery March 6 Ireland, redelivery Far East, has fixed at USD 32,000 daily. – On Panamaxes, a number of early Atlantic ships have now been fixed causing a slight lull in trading. Charterers continued to look for tonnage for the period. – In the Atlantic, Cargill has failed M/V «Morviken,» which was reported as fixed at USD 14,500 daily and USD 425,000 ballast bonus with same charterers who fixed M/V «Panaghia Kastrela.» – In Far East, NYK has fixed M/V «Atlantic,» 73,500 dwt, built 1996, delivery/redelivery Japan March 5-6, trip via USAC, at USD 11,650 daily. – On Handies/Handymaxes, rates remain strong out of US Gulf. Pan Ocean has fixed M/V «Crystal Lily,» 48,913 dwt, built 1999, delivery US Gulf, redelivery Far East, at USD 14,250 daily. – On smaller sizes, Pacnav has fixed M/V «Strange Attractor,» 28,873 dwt, built 1978, delivery US Gulf beg. March, redelivery East Coast Mexico, at USD 8,500 daily. – On coal cargoes, Enel for 65,000 tons of cargo, loading Indonesia March 15-24, discharging Kopper, has fixed at USD 11.65 per ton with 30,000-ton load and 15,000 tons’ discharge.
