Stocks firm, stay above 1,400 points

Greek stocks nudged higher on Tuesday, keeping above the 1,400-point key support level, in lethargic holiday trade.

The Athens bourse firmed 0.49 percent to 1,411.09 points, after dipping to as low as 1,397.81 points in intra-session trade.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 0.70 percent to end at 661.28 points.

National Bank jumped 1.99 percent to close at 6.16 euros, while peer Alpha nosed ahead 0.52 percent to 3.90 euros.

Hellenic Exchanges advanced 1.83 percent to 5.02 euros and construction group Ellaktor rose 1.53 percent to 3.31 euros.

OTE telecom ranked among the losers, dipping 0.96 percent to 6.21 euros, as did power company PPC, which gave up 0.45 percent to end at 10.97 euros.

The small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index added 1.68 percent, while the mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index ended up 0.08 percent.

Turnover eased to 48.9 million euros, among the lowest levels seen all year, from 57.8 million in the previous session.

In late trade yesterday, Germany?s DAX and France?s CAC 40 were largely unchanged, showing marginal losses.

The London Stock Exchange was closed for a public holiday.
