Retail turnover drop eases during sales period

The drop in turnover in the first week of the winter sales period has eased from last year, boosting expectations in the sector, according to the National Confederation of Greek Commerce (ESEE).

ESEE said in a statement on Tuesday that sales are 10 percent lower than last year, following a 25 percent drop in turnover in the 2010 sales period.

?Justifiably, many have described the first week of the sales period as a pleasant surprise that has boosted expectations and improved sentiment, even if it proves to be temporary,? ESEE said.

Winter sales run until the end of February.
