Cruise sector to open up
The Cabinet approved on Thursday the bill for the full liberalization of circular cruises from and to Greek ports for cruise ships without a European Union flag, correcting the errors of the last few years which had led to major international cruise companies avoiding the country?s ports as a starting points for their itineraries.
The bill puts an end to the condition for a special contract between the cruise firm and the state.
A recent survey by the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping found that opening up the cruise sector will fetch the national economy additional profits of more than 1 billion euros per year and will result in the creation of some 18,000 jobs.
