Construction continues decline as number of permits issued in March falls 50.9%
There was a 50.9 percent decrease in the number of building permits issued in March this year compared to last year, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Tuesday.
The decrease in surface area covered was 51.8 percent, while in terms of volume the drop reached 54.3 percent compared to March 2012.
In the last twelve months, from April 2012 until March 2013, total building activity calculated on the basis of the number of issued building permits amounted to 19,526, said ELSTAT
This figure corresponds to 3,698.3 thousand m2 of surface and 14,366.0 thousand m3 of volume, reflecting a 46.0 percent decrease in the number of building permits, 39.2 percent decrease in surface and a 38.7 percent decrease in volume, compared with the corresponding period of April 2011 until March 2012.
