Shares rise again, trading declines
Stocks rose yesterday but gains trailed European bourses as still-nervous investors locked in profits after Wednesday’s strong bounce, notably in OTE Telecom. The Athens benchmark general index gained 0.71 percent to 1,518.02 points. «The market was a bit colorless today. We’re certainly following indications from foreign markets and trying to maintain levels,» said trader Nikos Diamantopoulos at Kappa Securities. Bellwether OTE, Greece’s largest telecoms company, failed to track European peers which moved higher for a second day, easing 0.68 percent to 8.78 euros. Banks gained 1.31 percent with blue chips rising 0.71 percent. Mid-caps added 1.72 percent, while small-caps gained 0.97 percent. Turnover fell to 70.30 million euros from Wednesday’s 101.07 million on 24.6 million shares traded. Winners beat losers 229 to 79, with 52 shares unchanged on 360 traded. (Reuters)
