Strong stock gains result in weekly rise for ATHEX benchmark

The final trading session of the week brought gains for most stocks on the Greek bourse, but the first half of the year ended with losses of 6.65 percent for its benchmark index.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 847.57 points, adding 2.51 percent to Thursday’s 826.81 points and 2.21 percent to last Friday’s closing figure. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index expanded by 2.61 percent to 283.46 points.

OTE led the blue chips with gains of 5.26 percent, while Alpha Bank added 4.88 percent. Motor Oil (down 1.75 percent) and OPAP (1.68 percent) were the only blue chips to head south.

In total, 80 stocks showed gains, 41 reported losses and 22 stayed put.

Turnover fell to 51.3 million euros from Thursday’s 71.3 million euros.
