Stocks drop 2.8 percent amid crisis

Greek stocks gave up 2.81 percent on Thursday, bouncing up against the 1,200-point resistance level as the country?s political crisis deepens.

The Athens bourse?s benchmark general index ended at 1,208.09 points after dipping to 1,197 points in intra-session trade.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gave up 2.87 percent to 537.59 points. Banks dipped 3.45 percent.

National Bank, the country?s largest lender, tumbled 4.16 percent to 4.38 euros, after falling by almost 6 percent on Wednesday.

Eurobank EFG retreated 3.33 percent to 2.90 euros and Alpha Bank plummeted 4.29 percent to 3.12 euros.

Piraeus Bank dropped 3 percent to 0.97 euros while Bank of Cyprus ended at 1.98 euros, off 1.98 percent. Marfin Investment Group lost 5.08 percent to settle at 0.56 euros.

Power utility PPC gave up 2.14 percent to 9.14 euros and OTE telecom fell 1.33 percent to 5.92 euros.

Coca-Cola Hellenic also underperformed, shedding 3.15 percent to 17.52 euros.

Construction company Ellaktor gave up 4.39 percent to 1.96 euros and Intralot fell 4.23 percent to 1.36 euros.

Turnover dropped to 85.5 million euros, from 120 million euros in the previous session.
