Sixth day of losses for the bourse index

Sellers were out in force in August?s first session on Monday, taking the streak of losing sessions on the local bourse to six, including all of last week.

Turnover has slid to particularly low levels, partly explained by the vacation period.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 1,182.76 points, declining by 1.78 percent from last Friday?s closing figure of 1,204.15 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped 2.08 percent to end at 515.19 points.

Proton Bank lost 17.54 percent after the eruption of an embezzlement scandal over the weekend.

In total, 47 stocks moved up, 80 went down and 59 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 51.6 million euros, up from last Friday?s 50.2 million euros.
