French bourse jitters, jobs data weigh on stocks

The early afternoon losses posted by French stocks upset the Greek market on Thursday, as the local bourse is at present particularly vulnerable to pressure from abroad on any given pretext. News about the rise in Greek unemployment did not help either.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 976.17 points, falling 0.60 percent from Wednesday?s closing figure of 982.11 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 0.59 percent to end at 424.51 points. The small-cap index dropped by 2.43 percent.

Blue chips presented a mixed picture, with OTE telecom adding 2.78 percent and Ellaktor shedding 3.90 percent.

In total, 42 stocks moved up, 98 went down and 39 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 66.5 million euros, against 70.6 million on Wednesday.
