Short-selling news benefits ATHEX

The ban on the short selling of financial stocks on the French, Belgian, Italian and Spanish stock exchanges boosted the Greek market too on Friday, vindicating the Greek Capital Market Commission’s decision last Tuesday to the same effect for all stocks.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 991.14 points, expanding by 1.53 percent from Thursday?s closing figure of 976.17 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.14 percent to end at 429.35 points.

Most blue chips posted gains, with Coca-Cola HBC adding 5.10 percent, while Jumbo contracted by 4.06 percent.

In total, 81 stocks moved up, 44 went down and 48 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to just 54 million euros, against 66.5 million on Thursday.
