No letup in local bourse decline

Once again the local stock market followed the downward path of its European peers on Friday to end the week with more losses for its main index (2.94 percent week-on-week).

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 961.96 points, contracting by 1.50 percent from Thursday?s closing figure of 976.62 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 1.46 percent to end at 410.95 points, while the small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index added 0.21 percent.

Bank of Cyprus outperformed with gains of 6.54 percent, while Marfin Popular Bank declined by 6.06 percent and Marfin Investment Group shed 3.13 percent.

In total, 38 stocks moved up, 84 went down and 44 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 53 million euros, up from 46.2 million on Thursday.
