Banks lead bourse to more decline

The drop continued on the local bourse on Thursday as banks continued to generate worries among investors, following Eurobank EFG?s exit from the European Stoxx 600 index.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 889.17 points, contracting by 0.42 percent from Wednesday?s closing figure of 892.96 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped by 0.99 percent to end at 372.80 points, though the mid-cap index gained 0.96 percent.

Jumbo posted gains of 5.01 percent to lead blue chips, while Alpha Bank kept posting losses, which amounted to 9.09 percent on Thursday. National Bank closed at 3.01 euros, shedding 4.75 percent.

In total, 57 stocks moved up, 84 went down and 41 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 67.7 million euros.
