Bourse sees significant correction

Investors yesterday inflicted on Tuesday a significant correction on stocks after Monday?s mammoth growth, with blue chips sliding after the first hour of trading.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 958.12 points, shedding 4.82 percent from Monday?s closing figure of 1,006.59 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 5.49 percent to end at 406.78 points.

Bank of Cyprus declined by 19.33 percent, Eurobank EFG lost 13.84 percent, Marfin Investment Group fell by 12.82 percent and Marfin Popular Bank dropped by 10.81 percent. Piraeus Bank outperformed with gains of 5.56 percent, while Alpha Bank added 1.62 percent.

In total, 47 stocks moved up, 113 went down and 24 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 126.7 million euros.
