Non-credit sector blue chips help bourse index end on a high

After spending most of the day in the red during a session of thin trade, the Greek bourse’s benchmark index reversed course and ended with moderate gains on Friday, although it gave up 2.81 percent on a weekly basis.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 986.05 points, adding 0.93 percent to Thursday’s 976.95 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX-25 index rose 1.20 percent to 335.30 points. Small-caps fell 0.33 percent.

Non-bank blue chips led the main index higher. While National fell 3.39 percent and Alpha slumped 3.89 percent, METKA gained 5.77 percent and Folli Follie added 5.61 percent.

In total 73 stocks posted gains, 69 showed losses and 29 stayed put.

Turnover came to just 45.8 million euros, even lower than Thursday’s 46.8 million.
