TANKERS Rates are at stable levels, with the Med. market remaining active; the Cont. on the other hand seems quieter. – Modern Aframaxes in the Med. are continuing to be fixed at W/S 150, while Suezmaxes and 135,000-ton cargoes are being negotiated at around W/S 135. – BP has fixed M/T «St Helen» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading April 26 Algeria, discharging Trieste, at W/S 147.5, while the same charterers and 135,000-ton cargoes, loading May 2, discharging UKC/Med., have fixed Thenamaris tonnage at W/S 132.5. – Caribs higher at W/S 260 for the 70,000-ton cargo liftings. – W. Africa unchanged. – In the Med., Petrogal has fixed M/T «V. Skorpik» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading April 27 Egypt, discharging Portugal, at W/S 115, while Blanchard for the same cargo quantity, loading April 28 Algeria, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Bornes» at W/S 132.5. – In Caribs, Stusco for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading April 28 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, has fixed Conoco tonnage at W/S 260. DRY CARGO In the Atlantic, rates on Handymaxes continue to maintain strong levels. M/V «Laura d’Amato,» 52,500 dwt, built 2000, was fixed on a voyage basis to the East at a rate near the low USD 20,000 daily range. – On Capers, despite the slow start to the week, rates are expected to remain stable. – On Panamaxes in the Far East, Mol Navix has fixed M/V «Oinoussian Lion,» 71,662 dwt, built 1996, delivery end April Japan, trip via Australia, redelivery Japan, at USD 15,000 daily. – In the Atlantic, Daeyang has fixed M/V «Bahia Blanca,» 74,043 dwt, built 1998, delivery US Gulf May 5-10 for 4-6 months’ trading at USD 16,250 daily and USD 425,000 ballast bonus. – On smaller sizes, EMR has fixed M/V «Calypso N,» 33,009 dwt, built 1983, delivery UK April 17-20, redelivery East Med., at USD 12,000 daily.
