OPAP poised for 935-million-euro deal with gov’t

The board of the OPAP gambling firm has agreed to pay almost 1 billion euros to purchase the license for electronic slot machines and to extend its betting monopoly in Greece

According to Skai, OPAP decided late on Thursday to pay 375 million euros for the license to operate 35,000 Video Lottery Terminals (VLTS).

It also agreed to pay the state 560 million euros to extend its betting monopoly from 2020 to 2030.

The decision has to be rubber stamped by shareholders. They are due to meet in the next few days.
