ATHEX turnover shrinks further

The Greek bourse registered its third-lowest daily turnover this year on Friday as investors remain extremely cautious in the uncertain economic climate while the credit default swap market sees a 94 percent chance of a Greek default.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 798.42 points, dropping by 0.52 percent from Thursday?s closing figure of 802.57. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined 0.39 percent to 328.98 points.

Marfin Popular Bank and Ellaktor led blue chips with respective gains of 5.88 percent and 5.04 percent, while Alpha Bank lost 3.62 percent.

In total, 47 stocks moved up, 71 went down and 45 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 38.5 million euros, down from Thursday?s 40 million.
