Shares rise for fifth session in a row

Athens bourse heavyweight OTE Telecom advanced for a second day yesterday as investors snapped up shares that recently wallowed at record lows, helping the general index stay in positive terrain. OTE, the day’s most active stock on the bourse, gained 3.68 percent to 9.58 euros. The Athens benchmark general index gained 0.31 percent to 1,629.04 points. The index has risen for five consecutive trading sessions. The blue chip FTSE/ASE-20 index gained 0.72 percent. Mid-caps eased 0.28 percent, while small-caps lost 0.46 percent. Turnover rose to 151.36 million euros from Monday’s 126.81 million euros, with 58.5 million shares changing hands. Average turnover for the last three months has been 71.64 million euros, according to EFG Eurobank Securities. Losers beat winners 167 to 159, with 42 shares unchanged on 368 traded. (Reuters)
