Uncertainty inflicts serious losses on stocks

Political developments and the resulting uncertainty sent the local bourse into a tailspin on Tuesday, in line with money markets around the world.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 752.65 points, shrinking by 6.92 percent from Monday?s closing figure of 808.58 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 8.14 percent to close at 288.20.

Hellenic Postbank suffered the worst losses among blue chips, amounting to 16.11 percent, with National Bank shedding 14.53 percent and Eurobank EFG declining by 11.76 percent. OPAP contracted by 11.19 percent.

In total, 29 stocks went up, 119 went down and 15 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 75.7 million euros, up from Monday?s 69.4 million.
