Small-caps stay afloat as other stocks post losses

Small-caps posted gains despite the drop registered by other indices on the local bourse on Wednesday, put down to a correction pattern after two sessions of decline for peripheral stocks.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 745.64 points, shrinking by 0.93 percent from Tuesday?s closing figure of 752.65 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 00.16 percent to close at 287.73, but the small-cap index grew by 1.46 percent.

National Bank soared 10.20 percent, followed by Marfin Investment Group (up 8.94 percent) and Piraeus Bank (7.54 percent). Viohalco gave up 3.85 percent.

In total, 77 stocks went up, 69 went down and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to just 47.4 million euros, down from Tuesday?s 75.7 million.
