Dramatic fall in new car permits

New cars on Greek roads have shown a dramatic decline of 35.2 percent in the year to October, from the same period last year, according to data released by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).

In total there were 109,578 new car permits (new cars and used ones coming from abroad), data released on Friday showed.

This came on top of a 31.7 percent decline in the first 10 months of last year from the same period in 2009.

ELSTAT figures also showed a 21.1 percent drop in new motorcycles in the year to October on an annual basis as they amounted to 44,505 against 56,409 in January-October 2010.
