Cautious optimism leads to blue-chip gains

Measured optimism in response to the agreement between the prime minister and the leader of the opposition helped the local bourse register moderate gains at the start of the new week.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 761.04 points, adding 1.39 percent to last Friday?s closing figure of 750.63 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.71 percent to close at 297.79. Nevertheless, the small-cap index slipped 0.09 percent.

State-owned Hellenic Postbank outperformed with gains of 8.91 percent, while Mytilineos dropped 2.22 percent.

In total, 96 stocks went up, 51 went down and 19 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 47.6 million euros, compared to last Friday?s 47.1 million euros.
