Lowest turnover in 13 years in bourse

The session with the lowest daily turnover seen in the last 13 years on the local bourse saw bank stocks post gains while the mid- and small-caps indices headed south on Monday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 762.85 points, climbing 0.95 percent from Friday?s closing figure of 755.65 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 1.27 percent to end the day at 300.08.

The market is eagerly waiting developments on the fiscal front, as well as signs of sector consolidation, which the third-quarters results may soon accelerate.

Marfin Popular Bank led the blue chips with gains of 7.73 percent. In total, 84 stocks went up, 68 went down and 28 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 26.5 million euros, down from last Friday?s 35.9 million euros.
