ATHEX back on negative course

After posting gains on Wednesday, stocks on the local bourse reverted to a southbound course on Thursday as one listed company after another reported third-quarter losses.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 671.43 points, shedding 1.58 percent from Wednesday?s closing figure of 682.21 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 2.37 percent to close at 263.52 points.

Public Power Corporation was the exception among blue chips, posting healthy gains of 4.96 percent, while Eurobank EFG led the losers with an 8.56 percent decline, ahead of Alpha Bank (down 7.59 percent), Viohalco (5.63 percent) and National Bank (5.53 percent).

In total, 73 stocks registered gains, 78 posted losses and 33 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 51 million euros.
