Late blue chip rally secures gains for the index

Blue chips turned things around in the last half-hour of the bourse session on Tuesday to provide a much-needed boost to the market?s main index.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 660.07 points, adding 1.47 percent to Monday?s closing figure of 650.50 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gained 2.32 percent to close at 246.86 points, but the mid-cap index contracted by 1.56 percent.

OTE telecom led the way among blue chips with gains of 9.58 percent, followed by Bank of Cyprus (up 6.80 percent). Ellaktor declined by 4.39 percent.

In total, 63 stocks registered gains, 84 posted losses and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 23.8 million euros, against Monday?s 23.7 million.
