Turnover and main index drop as investors abstain

The Greek bourse seems to be sliding toward oblivion, with little movement and turnover remaining low as investors await the outcome of talks about the private sector involvement plan for Greek debt swaps and the outcome of BlackRock?s monitoring of local lenders? portfolios.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day on Wednesday at 659.34 points, dropping 0.11 percent from Tuesday?s closing figure of 660.07 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.05 percent to close at 252.45 points, but the mid-cap index expanded by 0.78 percent.

Marfin Popular Bank outperformed with gains of 5.37 percent, while OTE telecom shed 4.20 percent. In total, 78 stocks showed gains, 63 posted losses and 36 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 23.5 million euros, down from Tuesday?s 23.8 million.
