Bourse continues its decline, braces for more losses

Greek stocks ended the first week of the year with fresh losses on Thursday, pointing to a further decline in the coming week. The local bourse will be closed on Friday due to the Epiphany holiday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 647.58 points, contracting by 2.22 percent from Wednesday?s closing figure of 662.29 points, its lowest point since December 1992. The weekly losses of the benchmark amounted to 4.83 percent.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined 2.65 percent to close at 247.16 points. Small-caps added 1.21 percent.

In total, 51 stocks registered gains, 87 posted losses and 23 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 21.2 million euros, against Wednesday?s 19.4 million.
