Third day of gains for stocks
The local bourse was on Friday lucky to close before the news of a likely credit rating downgrade for France and other eurozone countries emerged and before reports of a pause in talks on a debt swap deal came through. As a result it posted healthy gains, ending the week on a high note.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 644.94 points, expanding by 2.02 percent from Thursday?s closing figure of 632.19 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.99 percent to end at 248.45 points.
National Bank outperformed with gains of 5.59 percent, while Public Power Corporation shed 4.17 percent.
In total, 89 stocks registered gains, 48 posted losses and 30 remained unchanged.
Turnover amounted to 27.9 million euros, down from Thursday?s 32.4 million.
