Pendulum swings in local stocks? favor

The Greek bourse?s rollercoaster of a week saw stocks post significant gains on Wednesday, after registering major losses on Tuesday, with banks enjoying a 12 percent rise as the market now expects the European Central Bank to participate in the bond haircut.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 737.26 points, expanding by 4.81 percent from Tuesday?s closing figure of 703.44 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 6.09 percent to close at 292.54 points.

Piraeus Bank (up 21.13 percent), Alpha Bank (20.71 percent) and Eurobank EFG (18.95 percent) led the blue chips, while Titan cement was the only loser (down 0.15 percent).

In total, 105 stocks registered gains, 54 posted losses and 25 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 56.5 million euros.
