Greeks buy UK properties amid crisis

Greeks and Greek-owned companies have invested more than 1 billion euros in the British real estate market over the last couple of years, according to a list the Finance Ministry received a few days ago from the UK authorities.

The document suggested that about 300 Greek citizens and enterprises possess properties in London alone, and in the most expensive areas at that.

The list contains the names of many lawyers, politicians, journalists and artists, while several entrepreneurs have acquired flats and countryside properties in the name of their offshore companies.

The properties acquired are valued between 100,000 euros and 3 million euros apiece.

Greek authorities will now investigate whether the money used for the purchases was from legitimate sources.
