Late rally sees stocks add gains

The late surge enjoyed by bank stocks in Thursday?s bourse session saw the market?s main index and most blue chips post gains despite significant losses over the course of the day.

The local market remains as volatile as ever and particularly susceptible to banks? shifts.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 785.02 points, adding 1.13 percent to Wednesday?s closing level of 776.28 points. The blue-chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 1.87 percent to close at 325.17 points.

Eurobank EFG and Piraeus Bank outperformed with gains of 10.20 percent, while Viohalco lost 3.63 percent.

In total 83 stocks registered gains, 72 posted losses and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 77 million euros, up from Wednesday?s 74.1 million.
