Bourse follows peers in optimism for Eurogroup verdict

Optimism in global markets over a happy ending to the saga of the second bailout for Greece in Monday?s Eurogroup meeting bolstered the local stock market considerably on Friday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 824.26 points, adding 5 percent to Thursday?s closing level of 785.02 points. On a weekly basis the index added 3.37 percent. The blue-chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 6.70 percent yesterday to close at 346.94 points.

All blue chips enjoyed a rise as Eurobank EFG soared by 22.22 percent, followed by Alpha Bank (up 16.03 percent) and Hellenic Postbank (16.02 percent).

In total 137 stocks registered gains, 36 posted losses and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 94.2 million euros, up from Thursday?s 77 million.
