Athens too affordable to overlook

Athens remains a relatively attractive destination for consumers despite suffering its worst period in the last few decades with recent riots making world headlines.

According to a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Athens ranks 15th among 33 European cities based on the advantages it offers in terms of consumption.

Athens stood out in the category of affordable prices due to the competitive rates of city center hotels, and ranks high in the list combining tourism, consumption and entertainment, which probably means that had there not been a crisis in the local economy the Greek capital would have stood much higher in the EIU list.

London ranks top, with Madrid and Barcelona tied for second.
