Bourse dips on lack of direction

A day of relatively low turnover for local stocks saw the benchmark index end the session in the red despite early gains, as the market is bereft of fiscal and corporate news that could power it forward.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended on Thursday at 746.53 points, declining by 0.72 percent from Wednesday?s closing level of 751.96 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shrank by 0.96 percent to close at 303.21 points.

Hellenic Postbank outperformed, with gains of 9.64 percent, and Eurobank EFG added 7.22 percent while Marfin Popular Bank shed 10.37 percent.

In total, 63 stocks registered gains, 88 posted losses and 29 remained unchanged.

Turnover was the lowest of the last seven sessions, amounting to 65.1 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 77.1 million.
