Retail sales suffer dramatic decline

Nine out of 10 stores in Thessaloniki reported a 40 percent decline in turnover during the winter sales, which ended yesterday, compared with the same period in 2011, according to a survey by the Thessaloniki Traders Association.

Those polled are reportedly keen to see any measures that could help to shift the mood of consumers.

This comes on top of the 12.7 percent drop in turnover recorded in all retail sales across Greece last December compared with December 2010, according to figures released on Wednesday by the Hellenic Statistical Authority.
