No vacation for one in three Greeks

More than one-third of Greeks are not planning any vacations this year due to the ongoing economic crisis, while Greece is the fourth most popular destination in Europe for holidaymakers, according to a survey published on Monday by Eurobarometer.

Greece is the top destination for just 4 percent of those surveyed in the European Union, behind Spain (10 percent), Italy (7 percent) and France (6 percent). Austria, Germany and the United Kingdom are next with 3 percent each.

The survey also found that 70 percent of Greeks who did not go on vacation last year cited economic reasons.

Tourism professionals are hoping that this year the country will at least achieve last year?s level of 16 million tourists and 10 billion euros in revenues.
