No end to bank stock decline

Bank stocks on the local bourse continued to slide for the 12th session in a row on Wednesday, inflicting further losses on the Greek stock market?s benchmark index, with no sign of a turnaround in the shrinking daily turnover.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 703.94 points, dropping 0.74 percent from Tuesday?s close of 709.20 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index lost 1.28 percent to close at 268.01 points.

Among blue chips, the day belonged to Bank of Cyprus (up 5.82 percent), with toy retailer Jumbo a distant second (1.90 percent). Alpha Bank led the losers, shedding 7.61 percent.

In total, 51 stocks registered gains, 86 posted losses and 15 remained unchanged.

Turnover only reached 29.3 million euros, down from 32 million on Tuesday.
