Stocks lose points on bank fears

The likely postponement of the announcement of the terms for banks? recapitalization weighed heavily on the sector?s stocks along with the Greek bourse in general during Thursday?s session.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 713.92 points, shedding 1.75 percent from Wednesday?s closing level of 726.65 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped 2.61 percent to close at 275.24 points. Nevertheless small-caps added 1.29 percent.

Alpha Bank fell by 12.82 percent, Piraeus Bank declined by 10.30 percent and Eurobank EFG lost 10.26 percent. Duty Free Shops outperformed with gains of 1.15 percent.

In total, 46 stocks registered gains, 75 posted losses and 18 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 27.1 million euros, up from Wednesday?s 25 million.
