Political concerns, BoG report weigh on bourse index

Gloomy forecasts by the Bank of Greece and continued uncertainty regarding the domestic and European political landscape meant investors chose either to abstain from trading on the bourse, forcing turnover to shrink further, or to liquidate their stocks, sending the main index to a new three-month low on Tuesday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 697.82 points, shedding 0.62 percent from Monday?s closing level of 702.17 points.

The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 0.65 percent to close at 268 points, but small caps fared even worse, as their index lost 1.67 percent.

OTE telecom added 4.44 percent, while National Bank fell by 3.53 percent.

In total, 45 stocks registered gains, 71 posted losses and 27 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 22.6 million euros, down from Monday?s 24.1 million.
