Bourse turnover gets ever thinner

More than the movement of the stocks on the local bourse, the disappointing drop of turnover on a daily basis best illustrates the lack of interest in the Greek market and investors? determination to abstain from trading activity until the picture of the economy becomes clearer.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 696.66 points on Thursday, shedding 0.20 percent from Wednesday?s closing level of 698.03 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index fell by 0.57 percent to close at 267.25 points, but the small-cap index gained 1.64 percent.

Marfin Investment Group continued its rise with gains of 5.15 percent, while OTE telecom was the day?s worst performer among blue chips with losses of 5.88 percent.

In total, 55 stocks registered gains, 63 posted losses and 25 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to just 16.6 million euros, against Wednesday?s 21.1 million.
