Bourse slides afresh as buyers remain elusive

The local bourse?s benchmark index ended at its lowest point in more than three months on Wednesday as buyers remain thin on the ground amid the general sense of uncertainty ahead of this Sunday?s election.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 686.19 points, shedding 1.96 percent from Monday?s closing figure of 699.91 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shrank by 2.59 percent to end at 260.87 points. Mid-caps fell by a marginal 0.14 percent.

Banks crumbled, with Eurobank EFG losing 10.96 percent, Hellenic Postbank dropping by 10.75 percent and Alpha Bank falling 10.38 percent. Jumbo added 2.18 percent.

In total, 49 stocks registered gains, 75 posted losses and 19 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to 29.3 million euros, almost twice as much as Monday?s 15 million.
