Marginal gains in thin trade

Late selective buying by investors on the Greek bourse kept the benchmark index afloat on Thursday after reversing early losses in another session of thin trade.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 687.30 points, adding 0.16 percent to Wednesday?s closing of 686.19 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gained 0.39 percent to end at 261.90 points.

Eurobank EFG led the blue chips with gains of 5.41 percent, while Cyprus Popular Bank dropped 2.06 percent. Public Power Corporation closed at an historic low of 2.41 euros, shedding 0.82 percent.

In total, 53 stocks registered gains, 58 posted losses and 24 remained unchanged.

Yesterday?s turnover amounted to just 22.2 million euros, down from Wednesday?s 29.3 million.
