Banks, small-caps moderate bourse index decline

The shock waves from the election result and the inconclusive talks for the formation of a new government continued to be felt at the local bourse on Wedneday, sending the main index ever lower, although banks and small-caps enjoyed a small upward correction.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended the day at 615.12 points, shedding 0.87 percent from Tuesday?s closing figure of 620.54 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index fell 0.81 percent to close at 229.95 points.

Eurobank (up 6.09 percent) and Hellenic Postbank (5.94 percent) outperformed, while Viohalco dropped 3.08 percent and OPAP gave up 3.07 percent.

In total, 59 stocks recorded gains, 64 posted losses and 26 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to just 27 million euros, down from Tuesday?s 41.7 million.
