PPC ready to meet high summer demand

Public Power Corporation, Greece?s largest electricity producer, said it will be able to meet increased demand during the summer months.

All of the company?s thermal-power units are fully maintained and able to operate continuously while water reserves are adequate for the operation of hydro-power stations, Athens- based PPC said in an e-mailed statement on Friday.

Reserves of brown lignite coal stored at PPC?s lignite-fueled power stations and at its lignite mining center in northwest Greece are 20 percent greater than this time last year, according to the statement. [Bloomberg]
