Coca-Cola keeps benchmark index fizzing

Tuesday?s highly volatile session on the local bourse saw the main index eventually build on the near 7 percent gains it had posted on Monday, mostly thanks to a positive finish by Coca-Cola HBC, the market’s biggest player.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended up at 528.14 points, expanding by 1.86 percent from Monday?s closing figure of 518.49 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 0.87 percent to close at 192.59 points.

Coca-Cola, the ATHEX stock with the highest capitalization, outperformed its blue chip peers with gains of 7.35 percent, followed by Duty Free Shops (up 6.85 percent).

Public Power Corporation suffered losses of 7.69 percent, following its disappointing Q1 results.

In total, 64 stocks recorded gains, 48 posted losses and 21 remained unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 38.3 million euros, up from Monday?s 28.7 million.
